The Fast Track Scheme provides quick funding to new investigators who are below the age of 35 years (40 years for women). If you have a novel research idea, this is a good scheme to get quick funds. The scheme is flexible and available to any Indian science/technology institution

2) Rapid Grants for Young Investigators (RGYI) scheme:

The primary aim of the scheme is to reduce the age at which scientists get their first PI grant and expand opportunities for young scientists. Applicants need to be under 40 yrs of age and should not have any other grant while applying under this scheme. PI must have a regular position and at least one co-PI is necessary for the project. DBT will endeavour to release funds within 8 weeks of the proposal submission

3) Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA):

Support: Grant for equipment, consumables, contingencies and travel will be covered as required for the research project. In addition, a fellowship of Rs. 25,000/- per month will be admissible for awardees who do not have regular employment or are not drawing any other fellowship. Awardees having a regular employment will receive a cash award of Rs.1,00,000/- every year during the course of the project in addition to the equipment and other recurring grants except the fellowship amount.
This is a career oriented scheme to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas who wish to pursue research in frontier areas of biotechnology. Young scientists below the age of 35 years are considered for this award. Scientists without regular employment are also eligible for this award.

5) Better Opportunities for Young Scientists in Chosen Areas of Science and Technology (BOYSCAST):

The HFSP supports international and intercontinental collaborations in basic life sciences with emphasis on innovative and multidisciplinary approaches. The HFSP Program Grants are open to individual scientists at any stage of their careers. Preference is given to grants that foster new lines of research through strong collaborations rather than continue ongoing research programs. Applicants must pre-register on the grants website before submitting letters of intent and the principal applicant must be based in one of the member countries

 

 

Global Research Initiative Program (GRIP) for New Foreign Investigators by NIH

Global Research Initiative Program or GRIP as it is called is a fund instituted by NIH. GRIP focuses on Basic/Biomedical Sciences and in Behavioral/Social Sciences

The GRIP promotes productive development of foreign investigators from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), defined by World Bank Country Classifications, trained in the U.S. or in their home countries through an eligible NIH funded research or research training grant or award.

The goal of this initiative is to provide funding opportunities upon return home for the increasing pool of foreign biomedical and behavioral scientists, clinical investigators, nurses, and other health professionals with state-of-the-art knowledge of research methods to advance critical issues in global health when they return home. Upon completion of their research experiences using this grant mechanism, developing country participants are expected to continue to pursue independent and productive careers, including expert training and consultation and/or research of biomedical issues within their home institutions.

Deadlines for both applications:

  • Non-AIDS Application Due Dates: January 10, 2011, January 10, 2012, January 10, 2013
  • AIDS Application Due Dates: March 10, 2011, March 9, 2012, March 8, 2013
